Tony,

You're always a great source of info. Interestingly enough I was just looking at the Shure P4HW. I was not aware of the Shure P4M. What a deal you got! You now have a very versatile system.

Rich,

Thank you for your feedback as well. As all of us know, it is nice to hear from others who have done it and been there; it sure helps you sort through the mess.

As time goes on, I'm sure this thread will attract more feedback. Meanwhile, I certainly appreciate your replies. I'll let you know what I end up with.

Donn

If you’re stationed at your keyboards the entire nite, you really don’t need wireless. I just bought a Shure wired system for $450. It has the hardwired belt pack. I spent another $100 and found a Shure P4m on ebay. That rig allows me stereo in ear monitoring at half the price, and gives me control of 4 feeds. I run my keys stereo into 2 of them, and then run a feed from whatever the PA situation is into another channel, and leaves me a 4th channel free. All have pan controls. One band I play with has a complete in-ear rig with our own monitor console, so I take a stereo feed from it for all non-keyboard signals. Another band I play with has no in ear rig, and I take whatever feed I get from the PA, and if I don’t like the amount of my vocal, I can actually run my vocal mic into its own channel and then to the PA as it has true-pass-thru. LOVE IT.

I have a set of Sensaphonics custom molds and drivers (about $1000 including audiology evaluation and molding session), and a set of Futuresonics Atrias as a back up ($175 factory direct), and a pair of Shure E5 dual drivers as a back-up backup. I never use them.
