Subject:IEMs
I’ve done damage to my ears, losing mids and highs in my right ear which is
ringing all the time. It’s taken years for this to happen, but I’m now
playing as often as four nights a week. A bass player friend of mine
highly recommended the Carvin EM900S wireless set-up, but I don’t need
wireless and this product has received mixed reviews. I’ve been searching
for an mixer/headphone amp with the ability to mix a couple of sources.
Ideally, I’d like the ability to:
- Hear myself in stereo
- Hear the band vocals mix in mono
- Have some form of limiter to protect my ears from further damage
I send a mono keyboard mix to the PA and in turn I was going to bring a
monitor mix back to me. It occurred to me that I could try using Mackie
1202 or 1202VLZ mixers with headphone output I have for starters so I but
would really prefer not having an additional piece of gear that heavy and
large. I looked at the Sweetwater site and thought about the following
earpieces:
- Bose IE2
- Etymotic mc5
- Audio Tecnica EP3
- Westone UM1
Etc…
Unfortunately the entire band is not ready for the outlay of cash for a
wireless system. I’m hoping the guitar will bleed enough into the vocal
mikes. I’ve been searching through the archives and have found some info
there, but thought I’d ask again for feedback from experienced users.
Thanks in advance.
