Subject:Re: Kronos X. . . vst vs workstation?

Here's the rub for me.
It's dollars and cents.
A new Motif will run you in the neighborhood of 2500.00? Just guessing.
I already have a DAW, Mac Powerbook, interface and Komplete 8. Less than a grand for all that stuff.
I've got a few other plug-ins I've bought for way less than a sound card.
I can add a pile of plug-ins for 1500.00 OR I can buy the Motif which will be good for about a year before Yamaha upgrades. Same with the Fantoms. Same with Korg (Kronos).
I can get upgrades for my DAW for nothing.
There is the unknown with any hardware or software.
I've had a Motif decide not to play notes right in the middle of a keys-only intro. I changed a patch on the fly and everything was fine AND it never did it again.
If a Fantom goes down it takes minutes for it to reboot.
You take a risk anyway you go.
After all these years I'm still learning my way around the DAW business. Something new every day.
DAW's were years ahead of the OS in the Motifs. Think DOS which was long gone from PCs but Yamaha was still using it as the basis for their motif line. I don't know if they still use that.
At the end of the day it's all personal preference.
I now prefer plug-ins and software.
I still use a Nord and a Privia. Cabling is about the same either way. Trips to the truck and several more than a B if I use all the "stuff".
