Jack,

There are lots of people who can't tell the difference but there are many who can.. My guitar player is an avid guitar collector and his knowledge of vintage instruments (not just guitars) is quite extensive.. my bandmates know good a hammond B3 sounds we used to play with a real B3 when we first started performing, and they love the sound of the real B3 (and the high quality clones that I've always used).

I always get complements on my sound too from random audience members, my bandmates can tell the difference, and I can tell the difference, and it's that real B3 sound, or a reasonable facsimily that I and my bandmates find inspiring and we all perform better!

Having great sound is an important element of any performance in my opinion.
