May make a difference to what I buy in the future. Here in Australia M Audio retail shop prices are similar to Sweetwater US prices. Alesis retail shop prices, who use a different national distributor, are US plus 30%.  (our dollar has been around parity with US for two years) M Audio also provide local call support.

inMusic's support of Akai has also been good, based on my limited

If by 'support,' though, you mean continuation of product lines and
future OS support, that's a whole 'nuther question. It will depend on
whether the lines have been selling well, and the company's opinion of
their future promise.
