ok... so what is the speaker impedance? If the amp specs 400 w at 2 ohms, but the cabinet has an 8 ohm speaker, you don't get 400 watts, you get 100. And I disagree that "400 watts is 400 watts"... as you yourself say, "peak power" is irrelevant (and misleading), since the actual RMS (real world) power is much less.

400 watts is 400 watts; load impedance has already been taken into consideration. The amplifier output voltage capability combined with the speaker impedance results in the power specification.
"Peak" power is a completely irrelevant specification that has been adopted by manufacturers to products the best possible marketing specification. It typically is simply the the average power raised by 6 dB. In this case, it would likely mean 100 watts average power. What it does not tell you is what the speaker sounds like when the amplifier is delivering 100 watts.
