I played the C2 a couple of times and heard it at a couple of concerts. Never had the time to truly tweak it, tough. it sounded good to me, but it sits at #3 of my favorite organ emulations (with VB3 (both versions) at #1 and KeyB, who could go up if i could get my hands on one enough to discover how much can be tweaked, at #2). it sounds way better than basically all the other clones around.
And I never consider the possibility of a real Leslie: first, the leslie emulation is usually the weakest spot of clones (it was in VB3 until a bit more than a year ago, it is in KeyB and surely in Vase III, the Hammond-Suzuki software), second, I doubt i will able to buy a Leslie soon (and even if I did, I don't have a car big enough to carry it around!), so, from my point of view, it's not an option anyway.
I never heard live the C2D, of course, and it's entirely possible I'll change my mind when i'll do (although at this point I doubt it will happen: I had enough clips to build an initial idea of the sound).
Of course those are all exclusively my opinions, as you wrote sound preferences are quite subjective and subject to emotional state.
Additionally, I think that when you hear (or, even better, play) an instrument live, with loud volume, you enjoying the music and so on it will surely sound better than any recording.
