I don't think it matters who's invention it was. What matters is that
people care enough about the product to want to emulate it, improve upon
it, and most importantly PLAY IT.

The Japanese and Swedish clones are popular because in many parts of the
world genuine examples are very hard to find. They are hard enough to find
in decent condition at a sensible price in the UK (if you have a house big
enough to do one justice), let alone in Japan.

I'd love a real Hammond, and I hope to one day own an A100 series organ,
but the chances are it will be totally impractical for me to either use at
home or take to gigs.
