Kind of funny, one day I was looking in an old CD store, and the guy had a John Lee Hooker CD playing in the background. The hammond was so well recorded I really thought I could smell the oil. I know you meant it tongue and cheek but all the senses get involved somehow. And it isn't just me. I played at a jam sunday night with the leslie, and as jams go it got real loud toward the end of the night so I was pushing the leslie hard, and an old timer guitarist who was parked right near the leslie told me he really missed that old hot tube smell.
I remember reading once that they did studies of digital piano's and the ones with internal speakers on even though they couldn't be heard above the monitor system were felt to be more realistic, and they thought it was due to feeling the vibrations somehow through the keys. I'm not saying any company should go after that smell (although who knows, it might "sell" one over another in a close market) but I think the brain is way more complicated than we can ever understand when it comes to remembering an experience.
