Had it myself…Just couldn't resist.
Yes, right now the sound isn't up to par with current clones, but it surely have a lot of potential. Keep in mind that it already supports midi input…
Now, what is one of the the main differences in attitude between an hammond player and -let's say- a sax player? You don't bring around you're instrument "just in case". If you're going to carry along a 20 kg keyboard you'll have to be damn sure you'll use it.
With something like this you would be able to go around with your phone and if you just want to join in at a jam or something you'll still have your sound or at least a decent hammond sound with any midi keyboard already available -probably better than most of the patches available on low end keyboards.
I imagine just sitting at a generic keyboard, plugging it to the phone, plug it to the mixer and just play. Perhaps with the phone resting over the keyboard with five of six buttons with my favorite presets.
I imagine going over to a friend's house, we have dinner, talk a bit, at a certain point the topic goes on a particular track he's working on… he'd like to have some organ there, he'd like me to collaborate, perhaps he's not sure how that would sound. Today I'd have to come back home with the track, record onto it and come back to him. Internet surely would help but it would still require several hours. With something like this emulator i'm already at his home, with him, I plug his "'generic" keyboard in to the phone, the phone into his computer line in and just record over the track directly. In front of him, perhaps with him telling me what kind of things he'd like to hear in real time.
Sure, you wouldn't use it for gigging, but for one-off situations, perhaps even for certain kinds of rehearsals, i'd like something that a lot. No weight and you're sound is always with you.
And, by the way, if it was done well enough it could easily replace the computer for many players (it's a bag less to carry around, right?).
It's early but I surely hope Guido is considering an iPhone port…Now the hardware is ready and the underlying software is ready as well, we'll just have to wait until someone does the next move.
