Subject:Re: It runs in the family?
I just had to chime in here. I've tasted all the fruits you've been
discussing in this thread and there are pros and cons to all the solutions.
I own a 1963 A-100 with a Trek II SSP-3A preamp / 147 leslie, a NE3-73 with
Ocean Beach DB-1 Drawbars / Ventilator**** AND I have a laptop system that
I use also.
I barely play the Hammond anymore. Last year I used it and the 147 on 2
gigs, both were large outdoor venues. I ONLY used it because I wanted to
make a big splash. :p
Mostly I play the NE3-73 on a double stand with a Yammy S08 midi'd
underneath. On the rare occasion that I get a gig with a LOT of synth work,
I use the Lapper with VSTi and a M-Audio Venom.
There is much to be said for all 3 of my rigs..I LOVE the Hammond, but it's
a pain in the butt to move and heavy as hell. I love the Nord for the
ability to have really great emulations of all
the old school keys in one package and I love the lapper and the Venom for
going synth crazy. Is having 3 different gig setups overkill ? Probably...
BUT there is a time an place where each setup serves a wonderful
purpose in a way the other 2 won't. yea.. the Hammond is durable. I rebuild
it (from redcaps up) myself, the NE3 is stable as hell, but I've NEVER had
an onstage glitch with the laptop. I use Steinberg's VStack
as my VSTi host and it works flawlessly for me. I think what I'm trying to
say is ... all these things do a wonderful job..it REALLY depends on the
gig situation and you own personal tech savvy as to what you need and can
use.
We're comparing apples and oranges here :p
