Yeah Mark, I would need PC type guidance, so its all good. Will seek the all encompassing midi cable first.

Goff, Im a PC user not a Mac user, so my recommendations refer to PC implementation. I hope you get the software up and running cause you comments on how VSTs compare to the Motif and VK8M would be good to have.

Mark, Thanks man for the assist. I will search for a MIDI cable then to USB. I have not made the jump to computer controlled sound samples. I have seen VST host software when downloading Audacity last week on my PC for fun. My studio is Pro Tools on a Mac, with Waves, etc type plugins but I do everything from real instruments for guitars, bass, drums, with a Motif being the only sample based instrument as hardware and then the VK8M, same thing. Time to get caught up. :)

Goff,

If the midi controller has a USB midi output all you need do is use a USB cable to connect between the midi controller and a USB port on your PC. If not then you will need a midi to USB cable. After you have this you will need a VST host in which to run VB3. There are many DAWs e.g Protools etc that can do this. I am only interested in running these in a live context at this time so I use Cantabile Lite which is free. I plan to upgrade to Performer shortly but that is another story for later on.

Once you have connected the midi controller to the PC you will need, all for zero dollars to try out the concept:

Cantabile lite or similar;
ASIO4All driver;
Demo version of VB3;
Possibly depending on the EMF noise coming out of your PC sound card a ground loop isolator ($8 at a hobby electronics outlet)

I started on this journey to VST's with zero knowledge three months ago so don't hesitate to ask for help at any step in the process.

Cheers

Mark
