The explanation usually turns out that you've failed your notebook, not the other way around. Operator error. And Casios fail, too. ;-)
I fully understand that a person would be wary of some catastrophe, and agree that no Plan B is reckless. I do take certain steps to minimize risk. My laptop was purchased for this use only. I immediately deleted any apps that were no needed by the operating system. No email or web browser use. I turned off the wireless card and it stays off. The machine is only turned on when I'm playing. I am more concerned with something happening to the audio out jack than the application failing me. I've always had a plan B for that (Firewire interface). My ultimate Plan B will be a second laptop. Because, though I can jump to the Alesis and finish a show, I am pretty much f*cked in light of some of my more elaborate Mainstage Concerts. I have an extraordinary amount of stuff set up that I would be hard-pressed to replicate on even the finest all-in-one board. The risk has its rewards for me. If a Privia could fulfill all my requirements, it would certainly be a different story.
