Interesting. My old friend manages Four Play. He requested a Yamaha
Midi grand for Bob James to use. They had planned to mic the strings
and also run Bob's Motif rack MIDI out from the Yamaha so he could
control through MIDI foot switch his other sounds and effects. During
sound check, for some reason we couldn't get the grand to transmit MIDI
so Bob had to rely on a Roland on an X frame. I'm sure the look was
what they were after in addition to it being a grand. Bob still tore
through that Roland standing up.

No Yamaha acoustic sounds like that. I read an article about it from
Elton’s tech’s you can’t get a real grand loud enough for Elton. Aside
from that the tech said the real grand wouldn’t cut through the band.
I’ll see if I can’t find the article.
