We don't all have Elton's budget, I hang a custom made band banner down from the front of my keyboard which serves as a modesty panel hiding the mess of cables, expression pedal, DI etc and promotes the band. Another kb player, who is the main vocalist and fronts a band with 20 years of chart hits here (Mental as Anything) , stands centre front of stage and has psychedelic pattern piece of material hanging to the floor from the top of the KB stand. Plenty of opportunities here to be visually creative in disguising the kb without making it look like a piece of faux 60's furniture.

When and if a controller is released with laptop inside it I won't be buying it. I like being able to upgrade discrete components independently. From an ease of use perspective the GUI most VST's have usually mirrors the emulated instrument. I find it much easier to use these GUIson a 15" screen to tweak or build sounds than to go menu diving on a 20 character by 4 line display most boards have today. Also I find it much better when playing live to be able to glance at a bright 15" screen to see what settings are being used if I need to rather try to work it out from the limited info that can be displayed on the screen of most KB's.
Cheers
Mark

Its not always just about the music. I doubt Elton
John would feel comfortable being seen behind a controller and a
laptop. Its not part of his image. Just like alighting from a limousine
has more impact than driving up in a Fiesta.
Sometimes I'm reminded of Schroeder, large head bent over a toy.
