Subject:Ventilator vs Speakeasy... was: Korg BX-3 Opinions Sought
This question regarding whether or not the Ventilator would tame the harshness of the digital Korg BX3 has me wondering something..
The Speakeasy used to be the "cadillac" of preamps, and a number of forum members, including myself, swore by them for use with clones... HOWEVER, with the introduction of the Ventilator, I have stopped using my Speakeasy Preamp entirely because it seems redundant with the Ventilator. The ventilator is not only the best leslie sim going but it also imparts a nice Overdrive and it seems to tame the "digital" sound without the need for an additional preamp..
So my question is.... Are any ventilator users using a preamp in the signal chain?
My sense is that these preamps are entirely redundant with the Ventilator (although they're still excellent for use with a clone and a real leslie).
Incidentally, although my BX3 is long gone, I believe that the Ventilator and BX3 (using the mellow setting available on Version 2) combination would kill and no other preamp would be necessary to take away any harshness.
Just my opinion.. but if most ventilator users no longer use their preamps, I think this would serve as evidence that this was true.
