Subject:Re: Why we play Clonewheels...cross post Edited for weight

It may not be for those with weak backs, but not really that big of a "luxury." A used 8' UHaul can generally be had for much less than the price of a B-3, certainly less than $1,000. I lugged my Bs around for years in a full-size Chevy van, then found another one with a wheel chair lift that would lift half the organ (on ROKs) while I handled the other half, saving me the effort of lifting one end into curb-side door, crawling out the back and running around to lift the other end (which was a bitch on San Francisco's hills!). Traded that one in on a box-truck with a lift-gate several years ago and haven't looked back. It hits loading docks at just the right height and, if I'm playing a venue without a loading dock (rare these days) or loading from home (again, rare...my gig B generally lives in the truck), I have the lift. Peripheral benefit: makes quite an impression on venue owners and staff that the band loads in from a truck (that also serves as a rolling billboard promoting the evening's entertainment).

YMMV...the truck gets about 10 mpg (on a good day). Still...well worth it from where I sit (behind my B-3 on most gigs).

Best,
Fox
