I have also used a Speakeasy pre-amp in between my CX-3 and the Vent.  It, of course, worked well, but really no better than my Art Tube MP pre-amp in that situation, and the Art is about 1/5 the cost.  I usually use my Speakeasy between my CX-3 and Leslie 145 amp.

At high volumes (live playing situations) I can tolerably play the vent/cx, I can't the onboard sim, and the cx/leslie is heaven. At softer volumes, the shrillness doesn't seem to bother me as much, so I use it a lot late at night. Hope that helps.
