I don't think playing a well-maintained Mellotron live would be any riskier than depending on a hard drive to store and play plug-ins. Maybe even less given the number of comments I've read here and elsewhere re: hardware/software freezes and crashes.
Interesting that the Grammy's involved a B3, a B3 chop, a Mellotron, and a Wurlitzer electric piano. Kinda makes you wonder why, doesn't it?

It was real. Just jacked up to make it taller. Could have been a new machine or refurbished, which would not be a "nightmare" to play on the grammys.

I agree Bobby, nobody in their right mind would risk using an actual Mellotron on a show like this.

I caught a flash of that. It had the color and shape but seemed too big. Either that or the person playing it was very small. ;-)
I can't imagine risking mellotron use in a such a tightly-controlled televised production.
