Just curious... but if in your opinion it was so bad, why did you buy it?  Or at least return it after you discovered you didn't like it...

Yep, I (unknowingly) made the mistake buying an XK-3 back in early2006. I definitely was underwhelmed. The chorus/vib didn't sound quite right, the key click was simply bad, because it sounds like a re-triggering sample (try palm wipes, glissandi and rapidly repeating notes and you know what I am talking about.
As if this weren't enough: months later came out the next model, with very little things improved. They didn't resolve: the key dynamic/random key click, they didn't reslove the tube rasp (Neo Vent does a much, much better job!), the lesile sim is only slightly better (the XK-3 sim is unusable) - it's been like six years now years now: Where is the Hammond XK-d? - with at least random key click, a decent scanner vib/chorus emulation and a decent leslie sim.?
I won't talk about the overall sond: it is vere good, but it ain't a vintage Hammond. Please, guys, we are sending probes to planet Jupiter We have the I Phone - it can't be that hard  - unless you're holding back.
 
Please forgive me: but launching the XK-3c so shortly after the XK-3 simply was a cash-in. The latter has nothing to offer. Overall it still sounds like an XK-3: O.K. but not definitive - and not convincing. Too hard? We descovered thouswends of new galaxies with the Hubble ultra deep field photography - and we can't seem to be able to make the definitive Hammond clone? Please: gimme a break here.

I had the XK-3 before getting my current XK3c and don't recall any difference. It is heaver action and I prefer it
to the C-3 we have in the studio. It is also quick action which I like. It's another parameter that comes down to
personal preference. I have I have yet to find any compelling reason to upgrade to anything else. I do occasionally
use it to control my VB3 software and I always use a Ventilator. There has been so much difference in the B-3s/C-3s
I have owned and played over the years. It's kind of nice to use clones that all start out sounding the same (within the
same make and model) so if you borrow one at least you know what you are getting. IMHO
