I remember the first time I played a pipe organ, I was a freshman in college. I tried playing a Bach invention, and the delay in the sound drove me crazy. I made it through eight bars before I stopped in puzzlement/embarrassment. To this day, I do not know how classical organists manage to perform on such instruments. I particularly do not know how they manage to perform with a chorus or orchestra when they have to play so far ahead of the beat.
