I tried the Presonus Tube Pre with the Korg CX-3 going into the Ventilator. Even with the pad on, and everything set to minimum (drive and gain), I was getting more gain than I would have liked. The comparison from what the Tube Pre added versus the Ventilator was really minimal in my test. I didn't modify the Tube Pre with a 12AU7 tube, which I know has a lower gain, but I am now wondering just how much the tube pre is going to affect my sound. Maybe with a lower gain tube things would be different. I was fortunate enough to be able to "loan" one from a music store, so I can't modify anything.
