I'm sure that any device that has no on/off switch would not be damaged by turning off and on with a power strip. I have a Alesis Micro Verb 4 that for some reason has no on/off switch and it has been fine for years now being operated with a power strip.
And yes I've always been told you should always turn amps off and on in that order.

Yeah, I always turn the amps off first and put them on last. My art tube preamp and Vent and EQ pedal have no power on/off strip so the only choice is to plug and unplug every time you use them or put those on and off with a power strip. Not sure how doing that would hurt those components.
