Subject:Re: Politics and Religion

Here's my take.I play music as an escape away from the everyday B.S. much as
I am sure that a lot of others do as well. If you want to discuss politics
and religion as interesting and enlightening as it can be I would prefer you
don't do it here.I'm here to talk about rigs, music, clones, real deal,
synths, VB3 etc., etc.I like the group just the way it is. Again Bruce
THANKS!!!! Just my two cents. The amount of info and experience I've gained
here is overwhelming keep it up everyone!!!

Cheers,

Great points, Bruce.

Two other things to add:

1) Group membership is international. Not all have common, relevant
political concerns.

2) Group membership is nonsectarian. Not all have common, relevant
spiritual/religious beliefs.

I joined this group because it is the "Clonewheel Support Group." From my
perspective, this implies that our commonality is in the usage, development,
upkeep, modification, history and pop-culture of keyboard instruments
designed to imitate classic Hammond electromagnetic tonewheel instruments
and that the group's sole legitimate avenue of discussion would be thus
somewhat narrowly confined.

While there may well be an occasional church connection due to the Hammond's
origins (as an "affordable" pipe organ alternative, primarily for houses of
worship) and the continued popularity of "the sound" in such venues,
ecumenical issues, theological differences or religious philosophical debate
(Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, satanist, agnostic, atheist, etc.) should
really not have anything to do with discussion here, in accordance with the
group's stated purpose as revealed by its moniker.

Likewise, political concerns
(right/left/center/communist/marxist/socialist/anarchist/etc-ist) are not at
all germane to the discussion, unless of course some dictator overtakes a
country of manufacturer of one of our favorite clones and shuts down all
production or export. Even in such a case, discussion should not revolve
around the politics of the situation, but rather how we cope to compensate
for whatever lack of service and support may result, making it more
difficult to keep our instruments running.

I suppose another issue that may qualify would be an EMP attack, but then
those affected would not be communicating at all as their internet
infrastructure and personal computers would be just as fried as their
clonewheels. Their priorities would change instantly, reflecting only one
goal; survival. Truly too horrible to imagine ... an event that would change
the entire world, and again, not within the purview of discussion within the
confines of a Clonewheel Support Group.

Bruce, thank you for initiating this list and keeping it a living, vital
resource for musicians for all of these years. I thank the rest of you for
keeping it mostly on-topic and out of the political and the religious
arenas. Those sandboxes may be fun for some to play in for a bit ... right
up until they realize that they're actually filled with quicksand and are
capable of killing a great discussion group faster than just about anything
else on the internet.

Peace,
Fox
