I'm doing four or five bands (depending on your definition of a working band). I'll fill my calendar essentially on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, one of the bands plays more than all of the rest combined, and is paid the best. I favor that one as much as possible, and if a night has the slightest chance of being booked with them, I'll mark it as unavailable to the rest. It already has bookings into next May so that helps. I have also encouraged the second-busiest band (the Clapton tribute show), to rehearse a sub to cover possible conflicts, and alleviate any guilt on my part. ;-)
