I remembered, after posting on this topic, that I once played through another, newer one that I borrowed from another band's keyboard player out of convenience at a multi-band fundraiser. It sounded much different than mine and not nearly as good. Yet, I was in a nearly brand-new one for that Clapton tribute thing I posted and that sounded fine. So, who knows?
My situation is a bit different than yours in that I can't recall the last time I played without sending the keys to the PA.
