Indeed: the fixed speed was introduced with 1.4 (almost 2 years ago now!) and is an HUGE improvement over the other ones. I still haven't found a better sim, actually (no, I haven't tried the vent, yes I've tried the KeyB, it's VERy good but I still prefer VB3).
