Essentially, you're both wrong. You are better off not playing any thirds (F or F#) at all on the D's of the riff part (I assume you mean this part) - just roots and fifths. Typical rock-riff deliberate uncommitted tonality. It is probably major, but a obvious F# will sound hokey. By the way, if it's your guitarist who is taking the opposing position, ask him if he has the 7th in his chording on the D's - most guitarists seem to miss that (see left channel).

Yes, the original Temps is clearly major, but wouldn't be in question with anyone.
