Subject:Re: Guitar amp watts vs PA watts? help me to understand

Yes Craig, the K10 is Class D and it is LOUD. MY guitarist asked me politely to turn down last night in the break. That's a first.

I had it on about half volume on the amp and half volume on the board. But it's taken me a few gigs to figure out the best way to use it. First gig i ran direct into it and I really struggled to hear it at full volume over the band.

Last night I ran C1->Ventilator->Speakeasy Pre->Behringer->K10 and it sounded the best its ever sounded and I had shedloads of headroom. Even my old sax player (who owns numerous tonewheels and Leslie's and sneers at all clones) remarked how ballsy it sounded. Might seem a bit strange putting the speakeasy pre after the ventilator? It was just an experiment but it seemed to make the vent sound so much better used like this, almost as if it was eq'ing out some of the vents digital quality.
The K10 also really helps out the Nord C1's limp low end too, more than any other powered speaker (excl. a tube Leslie) that ive tried, Mackie SRM 450 being just one example, and the C1 has some low/mid grunt at last. This does mean that for piano at least, all my current Korg SV1 settings are much too bassy now and acoustic piano sounds really muddy through the K10. Hopefully i can sort that out by re EQ'ing all my settings on the Korg, but end of the day, i'd rather have good organ tone and live with so-so piano's, than the other way around..
