chris thanks for writing that .. the myths on the internet drive me nuts ..

for the sake of accuracy:

"It takes 2x the
power to increase dB, which is a "noticeable" increase in loudness"

should read: "It takes 2x the
power to increase *3dB*, which is a "noticeable" increase in loudness"

the additional 'old rule of thumb' corollary to this which I like better is
that it takes 10X the power (wattage) to achieve a perceived "twice the
loudness". so, that means a 100W amp only "sounds twice as loud" as a
10Watter.

a good way to see this for yourself is the 50~60 / 100 watt switch on 4 X
6L6 tube amps.. flip the switch - does it sound much louder now at all? no.
"fuller"? yes?
