Yes, a long way, but the Shure Vocal Master was/is one of the best sounding P.A.s I ever heard. And were remarkably able to handle some very large venues. But, as the name implies, ONLY voices. No running the whole band through it.

FOH gear, the more informal gigs have better choices these days of gear
and performance. Its come a long ways from Shure Vocal Master days or
the Bogen single cab systems.

These things are gone but the SM57, 58 are alive and well, even if not
made in USA anymore.

I think most , if not all of us, are in agreement here. This topic
comes up once or twice a year for the last ten years it seems. The
