Gary,

Picky, Picky , Picky!

Thru-out the years a number of today’s items were found either by accident
such as Teflon, silly putty and the microwave oven, or invented without
science by the use of trial and error like the light bulb, telephone and
airplane. The science came after the product’s introduction.

Did you know that motion sound used a piazo for its upper midrange? Didn’t
think so!

Isn’t this a quote from you back in October in regarding digital
recordings:

“I've been doing this stuff since the 70's....I'm still in the learning
curve! just when I think I have it all figured out I wind up working with
someone who knows more or the technology changes and I am reminded that
there is always going to be more to learn...and so goes the curve...... :)”

Here is a quote from someone who used one of these systems:

I bought the smaller (10″) speakers a few weeks ago , and combined them
with the speakeasy modeling amp, using only the preamp part, Crown 2500 pwer
amp, and Peavey 8 channel mixer. I played for a church retreat in south
Mississippi under an open air church (it had a roof but open sided), and the
system was essentially the PA system for over 200 people. In addition to my
keyboard (Yamaha Motif XF8), we hooked two mikes in the system, but ran the
mikes outside of the keyboard preamp.

I have never heard a clearer, more powerful sound! The audience was blown
away at the clarity and quality of the music, and ALL the keyboard sounds
(piano, pads, strings etc) were wonderful! Am playing a jazz gig in 2 weeks
and cant wait! Thanks Speakeasy!

Tone terms such as Headphone Quality Sound Live was discussed on this forum
just in the past year, look it up. It may not be documented as much as these
40 yrs. old terms:

But it is established.

Lastly, if your electrical engineering education did not allow you to see a
light bulb as a compressor it’s time for more sKooling.

Now it’s time for the question of the day: Is a closed minded stuffed shirt
an alternative life style?

I’m done with this thread!

There are a lot of variables not taken into consideration in these
statements. Driver and cabinet......using piezos, etc.
A blanket statement like that is ridiculous. Are you going for a certain
instrument sound or full range low distortion
monitor? The requirements might be different and where speakers are used,
subjective. "Headphone Quality Sound"?? What
does that mean? Once you leave the near field, the room becomes a big part
of the equation. There is no one "secret" combination
of settings.

Something new that I learned from Steve at Speakeasy.

So you want something new, here is the secret to the Headphone Quality Sound
Live.

Take your PA speakers, powered or unpowered, add a mid-channel and change
the crossover points as follows:

Optional if you Kick bass or LH bass: Sub 150 Hz, 24 dB, Low pass filter
(150 Hz and down going to the Subwoofer while 150 Hz and above go to the
main speakers with a 24 dB High pass filter.)

Main Speakers:

Bass speaker 2200 Hz, 6 dB, Low pass filter.

Middle 3000 Hz, 12 dB, High pass filter. Steve uses custom piezo's (3000
Hz rateing) with a 12v automotive trailer bulbs in series with the positive
line. This adds smoothness and protects the piezo's too. (Yes the piezo's
are the mid speakers in this system!)

High driver 5000 Hz, 12 dB, High pass filter.

You can build your own, buy or have the crossovers installed.

To finish tailoring the sound, install the Speakeasy preamp.

Talking with Steve Hayes, he has a special try as you buy program going on
now for the Speakeasy Tube Preamps. Buy a preamp pedal with a two payment
plan or a rack-mount preamp model with a three payment plan. You have 45
days to return the preamp in good working order & cosmetic condition minus
the shipping charges.

I listened to this combination with the little modified Peavey 10" speaker
system last year and it is unbelievable until you actually hear it.
