Well, my experience is kind of similar but with real organ pipes on a Wurlitzer.
I'd familiarised myself with a fairly complete instrument a couple of days before a concert and by the day of the event the bloody gremlins had got in and changed the speed and depth of the trems, 6 of them, and had messed around with the tuning. The first I knew was when I played the opening notes of that concert. I couldn't do a thing about it, heads rolled later though.
