As a bass player it's really annoying when they are doing a sound check and the first thing they start with is the kick drum. then they kick kick kick kick until the whole room is thumping through the subwoofers. after that, there's no room for the bass guitar that they mix the same way.... who's left, oh yeah you keyboards, let's not forget you after all this. when i'm playing bass, i ask them to mix me like a "low-guitar" and don't put me in the subs.

As a keyboard player, I like the vocal foldback to the keyboard monitor idea... if you have the luxury of some one who is not playing to care for your mix.

Stage monitors don't usually push the same frequencies and a Hammond can easily jump out of context when you are not hearing what everyone else does. Some bands, dare I say most working bands, do not have this "FOH" thing that everyone raves about. Just patrons who probably sat too close to your PA speakers before they heard the vintage accuracy of your organ percussion settings in all its glory. ;-) -pc
