Yeah, that is a very typical example. The problem in "Pretty Woman" is (if I remember correctly), that you can't just "stall" and follow the vocalist. Either everyone is locked-in or it will get messy. I think the drummer is the luckiest guy in these situations: he can get away with playing a 2/4 pattern or even a 1/4 pattern with snare hits on every downbeat, stalling until he knows what the heck is goimng on. No such luck for the rest of the band...

Well it's all part of making music.
I hope you guys will have a chance to rehearse it and play it smoothly next time,
Christian

Last night my band was doing a rare wedding gig and began to play Roy Orbison's Oh, Pretty Woman, which has a couple of bars of 2/4 in it. Our old bass player used to ignore these bars and play it in straight 4/4 time. Last night our new bass player, me and the guitarist were playing the tune correctly, but the drummer started to play it like our old errant bassist. When he realized how we were playing it, he began to play it correctly, but by then, the rest of us started to ignore the 2/4 bars. The the drummer went back to 4/4 to align with us, but by then the rest of us stumbled back to adding the 2/4 bars. Talk about 45 seconds of pure cluster ##$^%%$#!!!##@*%#.....
