Subject:Re: HELP!!! The display on my korg cx3 (2001 Version 2) just went out on a gig....
Hi Steve,
Most likely, it's due to a loose cable inside. The CX3 and BX3 are
notorious for working for weeks or months with a loose connection, only
to die instantly at the worst moment. Certainly, if popping the top of
the case doesn't scare you (or you have a tech), it's worth a try before
going on to more expensive ideas.
There are a LOT of connectors inside, but if you just disconnect and
re-connect them one at a time, it should be easy to keep track. It will
require a partial disassembly of the organ. I don't have step by step
instructions, but I seem to remember having to pull the top (wood
cover), the short black panel that covers the innards of the drawbars
and such, and the metal lid over the drawbars. If any of this scares
you, pass the info on to your tech.
Make sure that the organ has been unplugged for at least 1/2 hour before
rummaging around inside, and use ESD precautions. (A simple method is
to do the work in a room with wood or concrete floors -- no carpet --
and turn take your shoes and socks off first. Finally, touch a grounded
point such as a the cover screw on a known grounded outlet before going
inside, just to be sure. As long as the humidity is 40% or above, you
should be OK.) And try not to touch any of the connector pins when
reseating the connectors.
If you are near Ashby, MA hit me offline and I may be able to help you out.
Regards,
-BW
