Your problem there is not the midi interface, it is the sound card driver.
All VSTi must use an ASIO driver for the sound card to played real
time from any standard pc soundcard.

and help files within your VSTi Host pertaining to the ASIO setup. I
have 3 audio machines, 2 with MOTU audio cards with MOTU drivers,
and on my laptop , running ASIO4all , I am down to around 6
milliseconds latency. Pretty amazing. Be reminded that ASIO4all
drivers
are basically ONLY for playback situations, such as what your are
trying to do, it does not work well at all for recording.
