Its free to try without function limitation, then you can but the personal license for $40 or commercial license for $249.
The software is identical no matter what license you use and they only ask that you buy the commercial license if you make
more than $20,000 a year. They have constant updates and are very responsive to users requests and bug fixes. The files
can be easily imported and exported to/from any other DAW....it's very nice software.

There is no free version of Reaper. You're allowed to evaluate for 30 days,
then you should buy a license. Not that they force you - there's no copy
protection at all. It's very cheap though.

It's marketed by a company called Cockos. Reaper is a great buy just like
VB3, and it is well supported and updated. I used the free version for
years, and then shelled out 40 or 50 Washingtons for the full deal. They
also bundle a lot of on board effects.
