Subject:Re: So-What about the SK1?

I haven't played one yet myself, but I attended a jam wednesday night where they had one. (I stayed on trumpet using the excuse that there were already two keyboardists there, however the real reason I didn't play it was because hearing it, I knew I was in real trouble if I liked the feel!). I was watching over the shoulder of one of reading's best hammond guys and I gotta tell you this thing does sound great on organ. This guy was mostly using presets he created as opposed to a lot of drawbar work, etc. I've only heard him once before this, and it wasn't enough to pin his style down, although he obviously had command of the instrument (real B3 that day). Then another friend of mine got on it, another fine player, but he's using VB3 with an old XB2 for a controller, so feel isn't that important to him I guess. The thing is it sounded great in both of these guys hands. To me a step above the Nord as far as authenticity goes. They were running it through the PA, not a super good one either, and it was cutting through nicely. I heard the first guy (the owner of it) messing with some EP's and clavs, and I thought they sounded as good or better than the nord electros. However the acoustic piano was real weak on the thing I thought.
I probably should have tried the thing, but 2 grand is definitely out of the budget for me, and I didn't want to end up liking the thing.
