Subject:RE: So-What about the SK1?

Hi,

I played out with my SK1 the second time this weekend. Now that I'm more familiar with it and have it dialed in I can confirm my initial impression…it's a really excellent keyboard. For me the keyboard feel is ideal (for organ and not bad for piano). I prefer the B3 sound to the Nord E3 (which I also own and think is a great keyboard). I didn't use the extra sounds extensively but I much prefer the overall playability of the Wurlitzer type piano over the Nord's, I found no attack issues. Right now however the Nord's library of sounds is much more extensive than what Hammond has available, but this may change. And I now feel unequivocally that drawbars totally trump drawlights. Yes, the lights instantaneously conform to any preset and drawbars don't but for me there's a total disconnect between using them and making music. Navigating through the presets, extra sounds and manual settings on the SK1 is to me not very intuitive. And I think as far as effects go, they're more directly accessible on the Nord. I use a Ventilator but the on board Leslie effect seems good. And as with most parameters there's much more programmability on the SK1 than with the Nord. I don't use C/V much but on the SK1 I do think it sounds good. Upgrading the system and adding sounds using a flash drive works OK but I like the way Nord does it through a PC app a bit better. Since I haven't owned it that long there's plenty more to learn but so far I am extremely pleased with it.

For those that are playing The new SK1-What do you think? How does it compare to what you were playing, What do you like? What don't you like? How is the navigation, getting around/learning curve? Compare to the Electro 3?
Thoughts?

Thanks,
Bill
