Subject:Re: VB3 controller???
Brian,
If you're not going to get a dedicated organ controller, like the Studiologic VMK 161 (and I would recommend NOT getting this.. I absolutely hate this controller).. then I would consider the Edirol PCR-800 if you can find one. I've used the PCR-800 to control VB3 in my home studio for a while and I love it.
It has a built in VB3/B4II mapping templates, so plug it in, turn it on, select the template and you're ready to go with all the drawbars and buttons configured.. You can connect it via USB so you don't need midi or an AC plug, it has a very good keyboard feel, and most importantly it has fader/sliders that are about as close to real drawbars as you can find in any of the standard low end 61 note controllers. Some controllers have fader/sliders that have resistance when you move them, others have short or long throw faders (they move a shorter or longer distance than real drawbars), and on some other controllers the faders are set too far apart so you can't grab them with one hand.
The fader/sliders on the PCR-800 are really quite close in feel to real hammond drawbars.. They're not perfect but they feel and work better than a lot of other low end controllers on the market. If you can't find the PCR-800 have a look at the Roland Cakewalk A800 pro.. it's the replacement for the PCR-800.. I don't like the feel of this quite as much as the PCR-800 (it feels cheaper to me) but it has similar design of the drawbars and I would assume similar functionality. So it might be a good alternative.

Craig MacDonald

Guys,
I’m thinking about spending some time with VB3 over the holiday weekend and was wondering what you guys use to control VB3?
Norm specifically I know you use an M-Audio Axiom but which one? The Pro or the regular version?
Thanks,
Brian In Ohio
