Let's be objective about keytars:

Pro:
Lets the keyboard player move around on stage
Gives a similar visual dynamic to that of a guitarist
Uses less space on stage
Brings a keyboardist closer to his/her instrument

Con:
Expensive
Not visually appropriate for traditional musical forms (i.e. anything apart from funk, new-wave and 1980s tribute bands)
Ever tried playing a piano part (or anything requiring both hands) on one of these things?
Looks incredibly dated, self-indulgent and generally naff
Generally unnecessary

Hmmm... don't think I'll bother.

Simon

Hehe...Man things are cyclical. How do you know the guy isnt running some software? No matter what anyone says keytars arent going away. Id like to see someone get up and dance around with a laptop slung around their neck or an iPad. Showmanship still has a say in the music business. You must know hidden behind a stack of gear is not the best place to be seen. Its not all about being a Poindexter...Even Ronnie Milsap, blind as he is felt he had to step away from his piano so people could see him head to toe. The first keytar, must've been Edgar Winter performing Frankenstein.

A new generation has discovered it: And before this she bought a Hammond chop from John Haburay and brought that around after her plastic piano got old.

Now I'd be seriously embarrassed to post a recording like that. It's not
the act so much as the 'technique' and local audible content. "Dub"?
IMHO :-)
