I've done that many times - in reverse. I have molded earplugs from the audiologist, over which I just wear an inexpensive pair of Sony behind-the neck headphones that are plugged into my keyboard amp. This works extremely well, and certainly looks better in live performance situations than decidedly inelegant big suppression cans. My keyboard send sits clearly above all the other racket at a very comfortable and easily adjustable level.
