Subject:Re: Ventilator mod
I'll respectfuly disagree w/ John, Dennis. et. al. In theory the positioning of the virtual horns should make a subtle difference in the frequency curve that could be appreciated no matter what position they stop in. In experience they can make a big difference. It usually sounds ok but there are quite a number of times that the combination of upper & lower rotor angles totally sound like ass. It can sound very nasal or the perc. can almost disappear or any other number of foul combinations. Since I have to switch the speed by hand & am also playing l.h. bass it can be a hassle especially when you hit a stretch where you have to quickly toggle it on/off 3 or 4 times until it lands in an acceptable angle. It's possible that the synergy created between the Vent, my particular clone (XM-2) & the monitors I use combine in some sort of perfect storm of sensitivity to the angle of stoppage. There have been rare occasions where the stopped angles sounded a little better than the default atraght forward but I don't know what that combination is so will happily settle for having the 95% best combination every time. In fact if this mod hadn't been available I was getting ready to sell the Vent & pursue other clone/sim options. So I personally can't wait to get this mod done (just sent it out today) and am very thankful to Bruce for making this fix available. Of course, to quote Mr. Wahler, "YMMV ". In spite of the tone of my rant here, as said before, this is a respectful disagreement.
