I sometimes use the sound suppressors that airport employees use on the tarmac. They look like headphones but they are not. Much better than ear plugs.

If you are wanting something to significantly reduce the sound level, I highly
recommend the Hearo brand, with a 33 dB noise reduction. They are comfortable,
seal well, and I have used them for everything from the gun range to noisy
sleepers.

The drawback to using those in a band situation is they attenuate different
frequencies at different amounts. So it isn't exactly like the whole noise
level comes down equally. You can see the attenuation chart on the back of the
package. But on their web site (hearos.com) I see they have a whole range of
ear plugs for different purposes, some of which say for music.
