Subject:Re: GEM RPX - Impressions?
If you do end up buying one, make sure it's one of the newer blackface models that come with the PC editor. The GEM PR-X responds extremely differently depending on what you use as a master keyboard. This is why some people really love it and some didn't like it at all. With some non-piano actions (like the Numa) the black keys tend to trigger louder than the white keys for some reason. The GEM sounds great when played using a piano action keyboard. It also sounds good when I trigger it with my Nord C1, but not so good with my Numa organ. Here's where the editor comes in; you can reset (match) the GEM note-by-note to the Numa action. You will also need to dial back the overall velocity response to mach the Numa (no big deal - set it once and you're done), otherwise you will not be getting the benefit of the great velocity response that the GEM is capable of. Once you get it dialed in, you'll probably be pretty happy with the GEM. I don't think your going to find another module out there with a better acoustic piano sound.
