Raff,

Since I don't have either pedal, the Lex since you asked, would hold
its own perhaps with or without further tweaking if you didn't compare
it to something else. Same thing happens with 100 mixes of any given
song. You just have to focus on what's in front of you and work with it
and forget about what you liked about the other 99.

But I'll bet anyone could do something to get a more tube sound. I
imagine as with many guitar pedals, some tweakhead would figure out how
to replace some components within the pedal or use another OD system in
front of it or maybe even after it. Also the pedal would sound
different with the many clones available. It would be interesting to
try tweaking the clone going into the Lex to see how that would affect
the Lex's OD tone.

It's ironic that Strymon's website has nothing in the way of organ
demos and I wonder if they ever considered their Lex for organ. It took
an external independent demo to get things going organ wise. I'll add
that viewing the guitar demos on their site did not convince me it
would be any good for organ. Who knew? My idea of a Leslie sound for
guitar is the old Vibratone, 10 inch speaker with specific xover set
for guitar tones, sidewinder mounted foam lower rotor only. I never
liked the sound of guitar going through a top rotor.

But yeah Raff, a real tube preamp and not all preamps with a tube are
the real thing, may turn things around. Preamping a preamp is done a
lot in recording. Avril Lavigne's vocal tracks on her earlier
albums were a mic into one mic-pre into another, like a Neve pre and
then into a Telefunken pre cascaded.

Hi Goff,

Thanks for your always recording-pro point of view !

Wondered if still there is anything recommended to do with any within
our arsenal to get a better tubified preamp with the Strymon Lex

Let's say if could be done some of tube preamp stuff preprocessing
before the stompbox to do take solidstate OD perception out.

Best,

Rafael
