Subject:Re: Multiple Leslies-Real Pipe Organs?
Don Leslie was a theatre organ enthusiast, not church organ. His rotating
speakers were trying to emulate the throbbing tremolo of the theatre organ.
Both theatre and church organs achieve this by causing the wind supply to
periodically vary in pressure, usually with a board that is driven by some
oscillating mechanism.
It's ironic that neither Laurens Hammond nor Don Leslie's inventions became
famous for their intended use.
