I wanted the smaller foot print and longer battery life of the netbook, I velcro it to the top of my midi controller.
I prefer the flexibility of the software solution. It’s not perfect. but each iteration shows vast improvement and the cost
of the external hardware (PCs, Macs, VSTi’s) drops as time goes on, yet the cost of the full up clones remains roughly the same
($1500 on up).

Hi Chris,
You are correct. The Tascam does as you say and it has a USB interface. When I have used it I get no power supply noise. If I use the 1/8 inch jack from the notebook I get unacceptable power supply noise. Because of that I have been disconnecting the power supply and running on battery power only.I have only used this setup at home and not for gigs.Sometimes I think I should stick to hardware but the software promise is always intriquing.
I am curious why you switched from your laptop to the netbook.
Best of luck to you,
LooseBruce

> If that is the case then this interface is used instead of a sound card. It provides the midi in\out as well as the analogue to digital input and digital to analogue output conversion. This would likely be a better audio interface than what your sound card would provide (not knowing the specs of your soundcard, Iâm just guessing). In your setup, I would use the US-144 as your single audio interface and disable the sound card (if any installed) so that they donât clash or so that the soundcard does not chew up any resources. The Cantabile software allows you to specify your audio and midi sources as well as outputs, both of which would be provided by the Tascam interface.
> In my own case, I used to use the Presonus Audiobox USB to provide my audio\midi I\O. This worked out fine when I was using a Win XP SP3 laptop. Now that I switched to a Netbook running Win 7 starter (32 bit), I ran into problems with the Presonus interface and opted to use the onboard soundcard instead. The onboard sound card only provides a 1/8â headphone jack output and on top of that I get some digital\power supply switching noise at this output.
> The RE JPC Di is strictly a DI (Direct Injection) box that will provide noise isolation as well as to provide proper level matching between my netbook and AH mixer. This unit does not provide any midi or A\D, D\A conversion, that is what your US-144 is used for. I am hoping that this unit will eliminate my noise issues, according to the reviews that Iâve read it should fit the bill.

I am thinking now that it replaces the laptop soundcard and may be better for my live application also. YOur thoughts would be appreciated.Does the JPC DI replace the soundcard also.

IâÂÂve looked at the specs for the Eons and they are relatively flat in the range necessary for VB3 but there is some coloration going on. Along with VB3 on cantabile I have also played with a graphic eq plug in (Anwida soft GEQ31V) which works great. I think you could tweak the EQ a bit and get a better sound overall. As I have mentioned in past posts I will be incorporating a Radial Engineering JPC DI between my laptop and PA board and expect to get a better result and doing any final tweaking with the EQ. Then again, VB3 2.0 will be out (hopefully soon) and the EQ may not be needed at all.

I could live with that amount of latency if I had to). I downloaded Cantabile Lite and will try it as soon as possible. I like the sound of the VB3 through my KRK monitor speakers. I have to check it out on my PA setup (JBL Eons). I may have a Voce V3 and an almost new ventilator for sale shortly.

My real problem at the moment is that I cannot get the VB3 screen to show up in the VSThost screen. I am new to VSTs so may be doing something completely wrong.
