Subject:Re: Early Skip Knape... fantastic!
This was the thing. Back in the 60's one of the Toronto FM stations (CHUM-FM) switched from classical music to underground FM rock. They had their usual AM channel which played the pop music of the day. The revamped FM channel however was mostly rock-psychedelia-underground of course, but the DJ's would also put up some jazz, some classical, some roots blues, perhaps a bit of C&W, and all the various types of hybrids. I would have never listened to or have been exposed to these types of music if it wasn't for this station. And I certainly would have never have heard of Teegarden And Van Winkle otherwise. This was truly the golden era of underground FM radio and groups like Teegarden And Van Winkle, and others, not only exposed the "rock masses" to other types of music, they epitomized that era. Eventually this station and others like it went the way of playing the pre-programmed pop crap that we have today. I'm glad I was around to experience that period of time in music. Now that I'm in my middle ages I can say that it affected my life and the music that I listen to even today. Many thanks to T&VW and all the others.
